Cut Silence from Voice Memos
Voice memos collect false starts, long pauses, pocket noise, and trailing silence that make listening painful. Cutting that dead air is one of the highest-value edits you can make—if you remove empty space without turning speech into a rushed collage.
Silence is not always empty
On a waveform, “silence” often still contains room tone, phone hiss, HVAC hum, or distant traffic. Visually flat regions can still be audible after you raise volume later. True editorial silence for voice memos usually means sections with no speech and no useful atmosphere you need to keep.
Natural pauses between sentences are not the enemy. Listeners use those gaps to process names, numbers, and instructions.
